The Image of the Silk Road - Tianshui Photography Biennale

WHITE SONGSHAN 嵩山有雪

Zhang Weixing

Everything that Satellite does looks simple, almost easy, but once you have looked, go again and ask yourself “why is it so simple” The art of photography is not only in the seeing but also in the imitation of simplicity. We chose to show this “simple” series of polaroids shot from the Songshan mountains not only because the Silk Road originated from this area when Luoyang was an Empire capital, but also because to be able to express one’s feelings with such a simple technique “Polaroid” made for amateur, reveals the depth of pre-visualisation that permeates Zhang Weixing’s art. It does not matter if he uses ceramics, silk weaving or photography, Satellite always manages to attract our attention with simplicity but also with tenderness.
